The John Mattern High Adventure Scholarship helps provide financial assistance for Arrowmen from Section G17N looking to participate in Order of the Arrow High Adventure (OAHA) programs. Any youth member that would like to apply to an OAHA program is eligible to submit an application.
John Mattern, a member of Orca Lodge, served as Section Vice Chief for the 2004 Section W-3N Conclave and as Section Chief for the 2005 Conclave. In February of 2006, John and his girlfriend were tragically killed in a car accident. His obituary noted “He will be remembered for his vivacious wit, leadership, debating and swing dancing skills. He was an Eagle Scout and was a section leader in the Order of the Arrow.” As an Arrowman he participated in the OAHA program at Northern Tier.
The John Mattern High Adventure Scholarship was established in 2006 to honor his memory and to assist the next generation of leaders to become inspired and forever changed through an OAHA experience.
